Both a driver and officer raced each other in a 200 yard dash last evening to see who would reach the house first after a driver fled from the officer and tried to seek solace in a residence.
At 9pm Wednesday evening an officer with the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service observed a vehicle travelling on Elmtree Road in the former Ops Township and measured the vehicle’s speed to be 143 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone.
The driver fled from the officer travelling east on Thunderbridge Road, eventually pulling into a Monarch Road residence. The driver fled on foot from the car in an attempt to get inside the residence. The officer gave chase, preventing the man from getting to the front door. The foot chase then ensued around the residence as the man attempted to get to another entrance door. A 43 year old Ops Township man was arrested before being able to get inside.
The male was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada for dangerous driving and flight from police. He was found to be in possession of 12 grams of cannabis marihuana and was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. His 2006 Toyota was seized for 7 days as he was charged with both stunt driving, and speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
