The Art Truax Memorial Bursary
This bursary was established in 2012 to honour and memorialize Art Truax who passed away on Nov. 30, 2011 following a long illness. He was 76.
Art, who served the last term as mayor of Lindsay and the first term as mayor of the amalgamated City of Kawartha Lakes fought a very public battle with cancer after being diagnosed while serving his term as City of Kawartha Lakes mayor, but continued to live a very active life in the community, continuing his involvement with the Rotary Club of Lindsay, the Dream Ball, Kawartha Lakes Food Source and as chair of the Police Services Board. He was also one of the founding members of our tournament and a strong supporter of our Emergency Services.
Art was a teacher and retired as a Superintend of Education, we felt it appropriate to create a bursary in his name to support our youth who are committed to post-secondary education.
